American Pit Bull Terriers were indeed originally bred for dog fighting. DOG fighting. Many shelter "pit bull" type dogs aren't even APBT or truly Am Staffs, they're just blocky-headed, short-haired, pit bull-looking dogs, or "pit bull types".

Even if Brooke's dog is a purebred Amstaff. Maddox may only show signs of dog aggression (if he ever does). But even fighting dogs that have won championships are never to show ANY human aggression, EVER.

And that's where BSL, breed specific legislation fails. It's a misunderstanding of how and why a pit bull may be aggressive. Even the most dog aggressive pit bull isn't supposed to be human aggressive, because their handlers need to be able to go into the pits and pull them apart without being bitten. They need to be able to be handled during training.

I've taken part in rescuing and rehabilitating these dogs. They are often not good with other animals (although in time, under the right circumstances, they are because they're not being FORCED to fight), but they're just as loving and affectionate as any other dog. More so. Chihuahuas bite more people.
